Well, this was a pretty rough week for me. I am pretty frustrated and a bit angry with myself. At the same time though, I am trying to remain positive and proud of myself and believe in the journey and process. I posted on my main Facebook but also wanted to post here. I went on a very advanced hike last Saturday. I was really excited to do it but had no idea just how TOUGH it was…
The pictures show some of the MANY steep hills involved in this hike. I was super pepped and excited at the beginning and enjoyed the burn I was getting from it. As time went by though……OUCH. The hills just kept going…and it was STRAIGHT UP almost the entire first 2 hours. Yea, and it was supposed to be 2 hours but we ended up getting lost and it dragged on to almost 6 hours!!
We did take a lot of breaks and that extended the time but WOW. I was EXHAUSTED. When we finally found our way, we had to head back down. I think going down was worse than going up in the end. Going down steep hills was ROUGH on my legs and thighs. They were hurting so bad they were shaking.
LESSON LEARNED! I will NOT be doing something so advanced again until I am confident I can handle it. I ended up being pretty sick after. I could not eat the entire day and got a horrible migraine. Then, the next day, the soreness hit. I don’t think I have ever been that sore except when I did the half marathon. I definitely tore ligaments…severely. Especially my right leg. My week was pretty much ruined. I could only do walks and mostly limp. My usual workouts are much weaker. I was hitting a bit over 3 miles in an hour but now I’m back around 2 miles and no jogging or running of any kind. I did up the incline to try and help.
My weigh in today was a maintenance with a -0.2 loss. Maintenance basically. I am pretty upset with myself over it but the positive side of me keeps saying I probably gained several pounds of muscle from the recovery which I google searched happens with soreness. Now that I am just about healed (FINALLY), I am focusing on next week and making it a much better week. Thanks for reading my vent and sorry if it was too negative!
